John and Mary, a conservative couple, always favored their younger son, Junior, over their daughter, Lydia. They believed boys were more important than girls, and Lydia was largely ignored, except when it came to house chores. Junior received all the attention, while Lydia was treated like a servant.
Lydia’s parents ignored her needs, like when she asked for money to replace her ripped pants, only to be told no because Junior had gotten an expensive new PlayStation. She found solace with her grandfather, who treated her with love and care, unlike her parents.
When Lydia reached adulthood and returned home after college, her parents refused to let her move back in, saying her room had been turned into Junior’s music room. Meanwhile, they were lavishing resources on him, convinced he would become successful. After her grandfather passed away, Lydia learned he had left her a significant inheritance.
When her parents heard about it, they quickly contacted her, asking for money to support Junior’s new apartment. Lydia refused and severed ties with them. Years later, when they called for help after Junior stole from them, Lydia chose to forgive them but made it clear she would not be there for them again.
