Greg thought he and Natalie had figured out co-parenting after their breakup—until a late-night phone call shattered everything.
After five years together, Natalie and Greg separated, agreeing to keep things civil for the sake of their son, Oliver. Though they lived in different states, they maintained a peaceful routine with nightly video calls for Greg to say goodnight to Oliver. Everything seemed fine, until Greg received a devastating call from Natalie.
She screamed, “Oliver’s dead!” Confused and devastated, Greg rushed to get answers, only to learn later that the whole thing was a lie. Mike, Natalie’s new husband, revealed that Oliver was alive and with Natalie’s parents. Natalie had faked Oliver’s death in a desperate attempt to keep him from taking Oliver away, fearing she would lose custody due to her pregnancy with another child.
Furious and heartbroken, Greg flew to see Natalie, demanding answers. She admitted her fears and apologized, but the damage was done. Greg was shaken by the lie, spending hours mourning a son he thought was gone. He reassured Natalie he wasn’t there to take Oliver from her but made it clear that any future lies would force him to take legal action.
Greg’s pain was deep, but he understood the uncertainty Natalie had felt. However, he was determined to be closer to Oliver and soon began searching for a job near him. He vowed not to let distance keep him from his son again.
And next time, he wouldn’t be so far away.
