When my daughter Amelia gushed about her new boyfriend, Jason, I was eager to meet him. But by the end of Thanksgiving dinner, I was terrified.
I’m Evelyn, a 55-year-old surgeon, wife, and mother of four. Amelia, my youngest, has always been a dreamer with a rocky love life. Being from a wealthy family, she’s attracted opportunists. So, when she raved about Jason—a charming, tall surgeon who made her feel special—I was cautiously optimistic.
Hosting Thanksgiving dinner seemed perfect for meeting him. I prepared everything meticulously, but when Jason arrived, I instantly recognized him. He wasn’t just anyone—he was my former intern, with whom I had a brief affair during a separation from my husband. Worse, Jason had been unethical, falsifying a patient’s consent form to get ahead in his career. I had fired him but spared him greater consequences.
Jason soon began sending me texts, threatening to reveal our past unless I helped him regain his career. After days of torment, I confessed everything to Amelia, including the affair, and to my husband, Peter.
Amelia confronted Jason, ending their relationship. I revealed myself during the confrontation, recording Jason’s threats and informing him that I had already confessed to the hospital board, nullifying his leverage. Defeated, Jason stormed off.
Our family celebrated the victory but took precautions, filing a police report to protect against further harassment. Amelia is heartbroken but hopeful, and we are relieved to have safeguarded our family.
